Round 1 and 2 Results in PDF Format OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Wake Forest women's golf team opened the 2008-09 season with rounds of 304 and 305 at the NCAA Fall Preview hosted by Georgetown at the Caves Valley Golf Club. The Deacons are in ninth place with one round remaining on Monday. Freshman Cheyenne Woods, playing in her first collegiate tournament, led the team with rounds of 75 and 76 on the challenging par-72 layout. She will enter the final round in a tie for 32nd. "Cheyenne did great today," said Dailey. "She was very consistent and hit nearly every shot right at the pin. She had a little trouble on the greens and she didn't hit a couple of shots the way she wanted to coming in. But overall, she played really well for her first two rounds as a collegiate player." Nearly four inches of rain fell in the Baltimore area on Saturday, cancelling each team's practices rounds, making Sunday's rounds the first time many players saw the course. "We didn't get a practice round in yesterday because of the rain and we made some mistakes early today," said Dailey. It affected our play a little bit, especially early on. Event though a lot of rain fell, the course was in good shape. "It drained really well and the greens were smooth. Of course, we didn't get any role in the fairways but other than that, the course was in good shape." Senior Nannette Hill and junior Dolores White finished the day in a tie for 37th at nine over par. Hill had a 79 in the first round but responded with a pair of birdies in the second round to post a two-over 74. White had an up and down day, making six birdies overall but she also had nine bogies and three doubles on her way to rounds of 76 and 77. Sophomore Natalie Sheary couldn't get much going on the greens, making just one birdie over the 36 holes. She posted rounds of 76-78 and will start the final round tied for 42nd in the 75 player field. Senior Jean Chua birdied her second hole of the day but wound up shooting 77 in the first round followed by an eight-over 80 in the second round. She is currently tied for 50th. "Overall, we played ok today," Dailey said. "We didn't make many putts at all but it pointed out our weaknesses. With the rough being so long, especially around the greens, it made getting up and down very difficult and we didn't get up and down enough today. We just need to continue to work on our short game." Virginia held the lead after the first round with a score of 289 behind Jennie Arseneault's 4-under 68. She responded with a 70 in the second round and leads the individual race by one shot over Auburn's Candace Schepperle. Schepperle had the round of the day, posting a 6-under 66 in the second round. After a 293 in the first round, Georgia shot a 2-under 286 to lead by four shots heading into the final round. The Deacs will start the third round trailing Georgia by 30 shots but a victory isn't the only thing coach Dailey is looking for tomorrow. "Our goal for tomorrow is to climb up on the leaderboard and try to shoot a round under 300," said Dailey. "We want to try and hit a few more greens and get up and down a few more times. Mainly, we want to make some putts. We didn't make many today even though we had chances, we just couldn't get any to fall." The third round is set to begin Monday morning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Live scoring of the final round can be found on www.golfstat.com.
