Wake Forest Tied for Second at ACC Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. -Led by freshman Katie Brenny (Little Falls, MN), the Wake Forest women's golf team is tied with Florida State for second place after two rounds of play at the 1999 ACC Championship. The tournament is being contested at the par 72, 5,950-yard layout of the Grandover East Golf Club in Greensboro, NC.

The Demon Deacons recorded a team round of 304 on Saturday to stand at 303-304=607 after 36 holes. They trail team leader Duke (291-301=592) by 15 strokes entering Sunday's final round. The Blue Devils' Beth Bauer is the tournament's individual leader as she carded a 73 in the second round to stand at even-par, 71-73=144.

Brenny continued her consistent play on Saturday by shooting a 74 to stand at 3-over-par 73-74=147, only three shots off the lead. Brenny is joined in the event's top ten by sophomore Marta Prieto (Sevilla, Spain) in seventh place at 75-77=152 and senior Kristen Wagner (Martinsville, IN), who is tied for ninth place at 79-74=153. Freshman Nicole Faniola (Old Lyme, CT) is only two shots behind Wagner in a tie for 11th place with a two-day total of 76-79=155. Rounding out the Deacon contingent in the field is junior Kelly Kirwin (Grand Rapids, MN), who is alone in 15th place at 80-80=160.

The ACC Championship concludes on Sunday with the third and final round of play.
