Women's Golf Seventh After 36 Holes at Betsy Rawls Longhorn Classic

Tournament concludes on Sunday.

AUSTIN, TX--The Wake Forest women's golf team is in seventh place after two rounds of play at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Classic being played at the Great Hills Golf Club in Austin, Texas. The Demon Deacons struggled to a team round of 325 in the second 18 holes of play as they dropped seven places in the team standings and now stand at 307-325=632. The Deacons trail team leader North Carolina (299-301=600) by 28 strokes.

The Deacons were led by sophomore Kelly Kirwin (Grand Rapids, MN/Grand Rapids) at 75-81=156 and junior Kristen Wagner (Martinsville, IN/Martinsville) at 77-79=156 who joined Susan Horton of TCU in a three-way tie for 16th place at 12-over-par. The trio trail individual leader Megan Morgan of North Carolina (72-73=145) by eleven strokes. Wagner was the only Wake Forest player to finish the second round with a score under 80 as she carded a 79 on Saturday.

Joining Kirwin and Wagner in the top 20 is freshman Marta Prieto (Sevilla, Spain/Academia Pre-Universitaria) who finished the first 36 holes of competition at 77-80=157 and is part of a four-way tie for 19th place at 13-over-par. Senior Alexandra Armas (Las Palmas, Canary Islands/British School of Gran Canaria) is tied with one other player in 41st place at 78-85=163. The final member of the Demon Deacon contingent is sophomore Stefanie Reynolds (Landenberg, PA/Kennett) who is in 52nd place at 84-85=169.

Play in the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Classic will conclude tomorrow with the final 18 holes of the tournament.
