Women's Golf Team Finishes 8th at San Jose State

Wake shoots a combined 989 for the tournament.

The 15th ranked Wake Forest women's golf team finished the San Jose State Spartan Invitational in eighth place despite improving its team score for the second straight day. The Deacons fired a team round of 318 to end the tournament with a three day total of 977 in Fort Ord, CA on Wednesday.

In the third round, Wake Forest senior Alexandra Armas and freshman Marta Prieto both fired rounds of 77. Those were the best two rounds that the Deacons posted during the tournament. Armas finished the event 10th to record her fifth consecutive top-10 finish dating back to last fall. The senior had rounds of 83, 79, and 77 to finish with a 239.

Arizona State claimed the team title while Jenny Chuasiriporn of Duke won the individual title with a score of 224. She was the only player to have three rounds of 75 or better in the tournament.

Wake Forest will compete in the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Classic Tournament this Friday-Sunday in Austin, TX.
