October 13, 1998 WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- The Wake Forest field hockey team is ranked 17th this week by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. It's the first time the Deacons have entered the ranks this season.
After starting the season 1-4, Wake Forest has won seven of its last nine contests, including victories over then #19 William & Mary, #10 Kent State and #12 Duke. The Deacons victory over Duke was their first Atlantic Coast Conference win since 1996.
Wake Forest is currently 8-6 on the year and 1-1 in the ACC with four games remaining, two of which are ACC games against #4 North Carolina nd #6 Virginia.
The Deacons will play their final home game of the season this Saturday, Oct. 17 at 12 noon. Wake Forest will be playing host to the Spiders from the University of Richmonmd.
