Wake Forest Falls to Richmond in Field Hockey, 3-2
RICHMOND, Va. - Jess D'Altrui had two goals, including the game-winner with 20:46 remaining, as Richmond upset No. 11 Wake Forest, 3-2, at Crenshaw Field on Saturday afternoon.
Amy Ottavinia gave Richmond (2-5) a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the game, but Wake Forest (6-3) evened the score as Jenny Everett scored off an assist from Amy Allen with 23:11 remaining in the first half. D'Altrui scored an unassisted goal just minutes later to give UR a 2-1 lead at intermission. Everett scored her second goal of the day just three minutes into the second half, but D'Altrui's score midway through the second half proved to be the game-winner.
The Deacons outshot Richmond 28-11, but UR goalie Carol Knerr was outstanding in net with 19 saves. Meaghan Nitka and Jaime Tressler split time in goal for Wake, combining for eight saves.
Wake Forest travels to William & Mary tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 21, for a 1 p.m. game.
