Wake Forest Blanks Appalachian State, 10-0
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Freshman midfielder Jenny Everett scored five goals and added two assists as the Wake Forest field hockey team blew out visiting Appalachian State, 10-0, at Kentner Stadium on Thursday night. The win marked a school record for the Demon Deacons, who recorded back-to-back 10-goal games for the first time ever. The Deacs defeated Davidson 12-0 on Tuesday.
Everett got things rolling for the Deacons (4-1) with an unassisted goal just 10:41 into the game, then added her second goal less than five minutes later. She set up a Lisa Andries goal and completed her hat-trick in the next four minutes, giving Wake a comfortable 4-0 halftime lead. The Deacons picked up where they left off in the second half, netting three goals in the first nine minutes. Everett scord her final goal of the night on a penalty stroke with 8:25 to go, and Amy Marchell and Amanda Janney pushed the Deacs to double digits with goals in the final 30 seconds.
The Deacons peppered Appalachian State's (2-2) goalkeepers with 48 shots on goaland held a 12-3 edge in penalty corners. Wake's Meaghan Nitka and Jaime Tressler split time in goal, making four saves, while ASU's Kathryn Pearson and Chelsea Daily combined for 23 saves.
Wake will next host American University on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1:00 pm.
