Duke Downs Wake Forest, 9-1

DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke set a new school record for margin of victory as the 12th-ranked Blue Devils downed visiting Wake Forest, 9-1, in an ACC game at East Campus Turf Field on Tuesday night. Duke improves to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while Wake falls to 7-7 and 0-2.

The two teams met earlier in the season in a nonconference match in Winston-Salem, with Duke escaping with a 2-1 win despite being outplayed by the Deacons. The second meeting was all Duke, however, as the Devils outshot Wake 25-9 and held a 13-7 edge in penalty corners. Duke took a 3-0 halftime lead, then netted six goals in 19 minutes in the second half to cruise to the win. Melissa Panasci led Duke with two goals and two assists. Freshman midfielder Jenny Everett scored Wake's lone goal with 16:31 remaining in the game, while sophomore netminder Meaghan Nitka made 11 saves.

Wake next hosts Radford on Wednesday, October 15. Gamtime for that contest has been changed from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Kentner Stadium.
