Wake Forest Defeats UMASS, 4-1

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Amanda Janney had a goal and an assist as Wake Forest defeated Massachusetts, 4-1, in a neutral-site field hockey contest at North Carolina's Navy Field.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Demon Deacons (7-6), while dropping the Minutewomen to 5-5 overall. Janney opened up the scoring for the Deacs with an unassisted goal just 4:22 into the game, but UMass quickly tied it up on a Chris Maillbauer goal 10 minutes later. Samantha Rush scored five minutes before halftime to put Wake ahead 2-1 at the break, and the Deacons put the game away in the second half with goals by Jenny Everett and Amy Allen in a 55-second span. Wake outshot the Minutewomen 13-11 and held a 9-7 edge in penalty corners.

The Deacons return to ACC action this Tuesday, as they travel to Durham for a rematch with Duke at 7 p.m.
