Wake Forest Falls to UNC in Field Hockey, 5-1
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Wake Forest field hockey team was defeated at home tonight by the two-time defending national champions, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, 5-1.
Cindy Werley, the Tar Heels' leading scorer, started the Carolina (11-3) scoring with a goal off of a penalty corner. Then only two minutes later, Werley assisted on a Kristen McCann goal. Nancy Pelligreen, the Tar Heels' second leading scorer, ended the first half scoring with an unassisted goal.
Werley continued her streak by adding the Tar Heels' first second half goal, increasing her season goal scoring total to 27. Samantha Rush then netted the Demon Deacons' (8-8) only goal off of an assist from Kelly Simon. Pelligreen finished up the scoring for Carolina with five minutes left to go in the game.
Wake Forest hosts Virginia (ranked 2nd nationally) this Saturday, October, 25, at 1pm, and Boston College this Sunday, October 26, at 2pm.
