Wake Forest Falls to North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Cindy Werley scored two goals to lift defending national champion North Carolina to a 3-1 victory over Wake Forest at Navy Field on Tuesday night.

The third-ranked Tar Heels (8-2, 2-1 ACC) got on the board just 10 minutes into the game on a goal by Abbi Keller, and Werley scored her first goal just before the haldf to make it 2-0. Wake (6-6, 0-3) came out more aggressivley in the second half, however, and Amanda Janney got the Deacs within one on a goal with 20 minutes remaining. Werley then netted her second goal of the game off a penalty corner to finish the scoring. UNC outshot Wake by a 16-2 margin and held a 13-2 edge in penalty corners.

Wake will face Massachusetts this Sunday, October 5, at noon in Chapel Hill.
