Recap
NCAA Field Hockey Tournament Second Round
Wake Forest vs. Michigan
"I thought that tactically, we were playing a solid game. Michigan took
advantage of some opportunities. We were never going to back down and
it wasn't worrisome for me after they (Michigan) got their second goal."
"(Kelly) Doton's first goal was clutch for us. There were a lot of
great plays by us throughout the game. We've been in situations before
when we've been worn down."
"We're excited and I'm really happy to be able to share this with all of
our past and current players and staff."
"Last year, we felt that we had the game taken away from us. We worked
hard for 75 minutes. It did come down to one play, but there are a lot
of other things that went into this game for us to get the win. It was
a physical game - there was a lot on the line. Michigan was just
playing hard and that's a credit to them."
"The first goal was a scramble in front of the goal and I just lunged
toward it. It gave us so much energy and we came back with another. On
the second goal, I wanted to at least get a piece of stick on it. We
were a little frustrated in the first half, especially the forwards, but
we knew it would come."
Michigan Head Coach Marcia Pankratz
"It was an exciting game, I thought it was wide open. There were a lot
of fast breaks and solid plays. Wake Forest played extraordinarily well
on their home field. (When we were up 2-0) we felt very good at that
point. Molly Maloney is our best stroking goalkeeper and she was going
in for that no matter what the time was."
"Maureen (Tasch) played really strongly. The game was a strong attack
versus a strong defense. It has been exciting, the players get out to
compete every day."
Forward Kelli Gannon
"We did a good job of recovering last night. I felt just as good coming
out tonight as we did yesterday. Our team fought like every minute was
the last minute. It just wasn't meant to be today."
