Charlottesville, Va. - The fourth-ranked Wake Forest field hockey team scored on a penalty corner with under 14 minutes remaining to pull out a 3-2 win at Virginia Saturday afternoon.

Wake fell behind early, as Virginia's Lorraine Vizzuso chipped the ball into the net with just 34 seconds elapsed in the game. The Deacons came back, however, to score the next two goals. Freshman forward Kelly Doton scored the equalizer at the 21:54 mark when sophomore midfielder Heather Aughinbaugh shoved the ball her way at the goal line.

The Deacs pulled on top for the first time in the see-saw battle, as senior forward Jenny Everett tipped a Jemima Cameron cross past Cavalier goalkeeper Becky Worthington with just under seven minutes remaining in the first half. Virginia battled back to tie the score at halftime, scoring on a penalty corner at the 1:02 mark in the first half. Jessica Coleman took passes from Carrie Goodloe and Mason White to wrap up the first-half scoring.

Cameron scored the only goal in the second half, also off a penalty corner. Maria Whitehead registered the assist for the Deacons, tipping the ball to Cameron, who shot the ball into the cage for what proved to be the game-winner.

Deacon goalkeeper Jaime Tressler made one save in the game, while Worthington totaled three saves for Virginia. Each team managed eight shots on goal, but Wake Forest notched a 7-6 advantage on penalty corners.

Wake Forest improves to 14-2 overall and 3-1 in ACC play, while Virginia falls to 10-6. The Deacons will entertain Appalachian State in the team's final home regular season contest October 28 at 2:00 pm in Kentner Stadium.
