EVANSTON, Illinois - The No. 3 Wake Forest women's field hockey team wrapped up play in Evanston on Sunday with an 8-2 victory over Northwestern, following up a 2-1 win over Michigan State on Saturday.

Wake Forest is now 12-2 overall while the Wildcats are 6-9.

Melissa Martin scored in the opening minute of the game, with an assist from Faith Adams. Adams, Aileen Davis and Raisa Schiller added additional goals to bring the Wake Forest tally to 4-0 against the Wildcats 20 minutes into play.

Junior Regina Shannon then added two back-to-back goals. First she finished a series of Wake Forest passes inside the scoring circle and a few minutes later teamed up with Minou Gimbrere to score on a penalty corner.

Northwestern's Elizabeth Dobbs scored the first goal of the day for the Wildcats five minutes before the end of the first half to set the score at 6-1 heading into intermission.

Michelle Kasold posted back-to-back goals to open the second half. Kasold beat Wildcat goalkeeper Emily Kyle in a one-on-one battle and followed when she scored on a pass from Regina Shannon to set the score at 8-1.

Northwestern added the final goal of the game in the 58th minute.

While Wake Forest out-shot the Wildcats 27-8, the teams were an even 7-7 in penalty corners.

Next up for Wake Forest is a match on Wednesday evening vs. Radford at 6 p.m. at Kentner Stadium. The Deacons will wrap up regular season home matches on Sunday, October 19 when they host California for senior night.
