EVANSTON, Ill. - After a scoreless first half, the No. 3 Wake Forest field hockey team scored back-to-back goals to top No. 6 Michigan State 2-1 on Saturday at Northwestern University. The Demon Deacons (11-2) snapped a nine-match win-streak for the Spartans, who are now 12-2 for the year. Michigan State held a 17-7 advantage in shots, including a 13-2 advantage in the second half. Wake Forest goalkeeper Crystal Duffield tied her career-high mark in saves, recording 10 by the end of the match. Duffield also logged 10 saves last September when Wake Forest battled then-top-ranked Maryland in College Park. Spartan Gwen Riley was the first to score in the match, catching a pass from Angela Pagura 10 minutes into second half play. Aileen Davis countered the goal nine minutes later when she teamed up with Minou Gimbrere in a penalty corner play. Just over a minute later, senior Michelle Kasold broke the tied score with a rocket from the center of the scoring circle. Kim Romansky had an assist on the goal. Wake Forest will continue play at Northwestern University on Sunday, facing host school Northwestern at 1 p.m. ET. - www.WakeForestSports.com -
