WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The seventh-ranked Wake Forest field hockey team defeated the Dartmouth Big Green 3-2 in overtime here at Kentner Stadium Saturday. Senior Amy Marchell scored in the last second of overtime off a Wake Forest penalty corner to win the game. The goal came off assists from Samantha Rush and Jenny Everett. Dartmouth jumped on top early with a goal by Carolyn Steele at the 21:50 mark in the first half. The Big Green increased its lead to 2-0 at 5:30 in the first half on a goal by Kristen Leadbetter. Wake managed to get on the board in the first half to send the game to halftime with Dartmouth holding a 2-1 lead. The Deacon goal was scored by freshman Heather Aughinbaugh off an assist from Marchell. Junior Jenny Everett tied the game at 19:30 to go in the second half with a goal off another assist from Marchell. Neither team could score after that and the game headed to overtime tied at 2-2. The game remained scoreless for the first 14:59 seconds in the overtime until the goal by Marchell. With the win, Wake Forest improves to 11-1 on the season. Wake Forest will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 12 when the Deacons travel to Chapel Hill to take on the fifth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels.
