FARMVILLE, Va. - The Wake Forest field hockey team defeated Longwood 4-1 on Monday evening in Farmville, Va. Demon Deacon freshman goalkeeper Julia Young made her collegiate debut in the match, logging 57 minutes and one save.

The No. 1 Demon Deacons are now 9-1 while Lancers are 5-6 for 2008. Wake Forest will resume conference play on Saturday, taking on No. 5 North Carolina at 12 p.m. in Chapel Hill.

For the second consecutive match, the Demon Deacons scored a goal in the opening two minutes of the contest. Minou Gimbrere teamed up with Melissa Martin and Michelle Kasold to convert on the first penalty corner of the game 1:54 into play. The same WF trio added the Deacons' second goal of the game just over 20 minutes later.

Carla Binnewies scored the only goal of the evening for the Lancers, also converting on a penalty corner just under nine minutes into regulation.

Regina Shannon put the Deacs up 3-1 with a penalty stroke while Michelle Kasold set the final score at 4-1 with an unassisted rocket with less than two minutes left to play.
