WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - No. 3 Maryland snapped the Wake Forest field hockey team's undefeated record with a 4-2 victory over the top-ranked Demon Deacons at Kentner Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Wake Forest is now 8-1-0 and 1-1 in conference play, while Maryland improved to 8-1-0 and 2-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Terrapins countered Hilary Moore's opening when Susie Rowe popped up the ball into the Wake cage. The goal was Rowe's tenth of the season.

After six minutes of play in the second half, Nicole Moracco put Maryland ahead with her seventh goal of the season.

Aileen Davis added the Wake Forest equalizer when she converted on a penalty corner attempt. Hilary Moore and Minou Gimbrere had assists on the play with 25 minutes in regulation.

A controversial penalty corner call gave the Terrapins an opportunity to take the lead and Meghan Dean capitalized on the opportunity. Katie O'Donnell and Susie Row had assists on the game-winning goal.

After the goal, with just over ten minutes in regulation, the momentum shifted in the Terrapin favor. While Maryland out-shot the Deacons 6-5 in the first half, Maryland had a decisive 9-4 advantage in the second half. Katie O'Donnell sealed Wake Forest's fate when she was able to convert on a breakaway play, helped out by Nicole Muracco.

Wake Forest will return to action on the road, taking on Longwood on Monday at 6 p.m. in Farmville, Va.
