Field Hockey Starts ACC Play With 4-0 Loss To Terps

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Juniors Carla Tagliente and Rachel Hiskins and sophomore Caroline Walter all scored one goal and added an assist and sophomore goalie Ashley Hohnstine recorded a career-high six saves in leading No. 4 Maryland to a 4-0 victory over No. 9 Wake Forest in field hockey at the Artificial Turf Facility Saturday. The victory was the seventh consecutive for the Terps and stopped an eight-game winning streak for the Demon Deacons.

Maryland improved to 9-1 and 1-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with the win while Wake Forest fell to 8-1 and 1-1 in the ACC. The Terps are ranked No. 4 and the Demon Deacons No. 9 by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

Wake Forest, which entered the game as the second-highest scoring offense in the ACC, was shutout for the first time this season. The Deacons had been averaging 6.9 goals per game and were limited to a season-low nine shots by the Terp defense. Maryland's defense has earned five shutouts in nine games this season.
