Two Field Hockey Players Selected to U.S. National
Teams
Deacs' Assistant Coach Also Earns Spot on U.S. World Cup
Squad
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-Two Wake Forest players and one
assistant coach were selected to the 1998 U.S. national field
hockey teams, it was announced by the United States Field
Hockey Association (USFHA). Freshman midfielder Jenny Everett
(Rutland, VT/Rutland) was named to the U.S. Women's Under-19
Team, sophomore midfielder Kelly Malinoski (Thorofare, NJ/West
Deptford) to the Under-23 Team, and Assistant Coach Shelly
Meister, a former All-America goalkeeper at Penn State, to the
National World Cup Team.
Everett led the Demon Deacons in
scoring as a rookie, starting all 19 games and tallying 17
goals and three assists. She set several new school records,
including goals in a season by a freshman (17), points in a
season by a freshman (37), goals in a game (5) and points in a
game (11). She earned second-team all-region honors.
Malinoski is a two-year starter at midfield for the Deacs
and recorded two goals, one assist, and four defensive saves in
19 games this year. She earned second-team all-region honors as
a freshman in 1996, recording two goals and six assists in 15
games. Meister joined the Wake Forest coaching staff this
past fall after a stellar collegiate career with the Nittany
Lions. A four-time collegiate All-American in goal for Penn
State, Meister was also a member of the 1994 Under-21 Team and
the 1995 U.S. National World Cup Team.
