Wake Field Hockey Team Earns 11th Ranking
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest is ranked 11th in the first Division I Field Hockey Poll, released yesterday by the NCAA. The Deacons, who are off to a 6-1 start and have won six-straight games, open up their ACC schedule against Duke tonight at 7 p.m.
The ranking marks the Deacons' return to the national top 20 after nearly a year's absence. Wake Forest achieved its first-ever national ranking late in the 1994 season, and remained a fixture in the top 20 through 11 straight polls. The Deacons fell out of the national rankings midway through an injury-riddled 1996 season, however. The highest national ranking for a Wake Forest field hockey squad came in 1995, when the Deacs were seventh in the nation.
