WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - After opening the season with a 62-27 win over UNC Greensboro on Monday, the Wake Forest women's basketball team (1-0) will host Appalachian State (0-2) on Friday night in the Joel Coliseum Annex beginning at 7 p.m.

The in-state rivals haven't faced each other since December 2002. Wake Forest holds an all-time 11-10 advantage, winning the four most recent matchups.

Appalachian State head coach Darcie Vincent is in her first year with the Mountaineers, joining the team after eight seasons at California University (Pa.). During her tenure there Vincent led the Vulcans to seven NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2004 NCAA Division II national championship.

The Mountaineers have dropped two games to open the 2008 campaign. On November 14 the team fell to Marshall 67-65 and followed with an 80-75 loss at East Carolina.

Freshman Canesha Edwards currently leads the Mountaineers in rebounding with 13 per game in addition to 13 points per game average. France Hernandez leads the team in scoring with 14 points per game.

On Monday Wake Forest will host Winston-Salem State at 5 p.m.
