WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-Tracy Connor (Landis, NC/South Rowan), a 1997 graduate of Wake Forest and a four-year standout on the Demon Deacon women's basketball team, has signed with the Utah Starzz of the Women's National Basketball Association, joining the team's roster for the 1998 season. Utah contacted Connor following her performance at one of the WNBA's free agent tryouts, held in New York City on May 2-3. She is one of 16 players on the Starzz roster for training camp, which begins May 12 in Salt Lake City. The team must designate 11 active players by the start of the season, but can keep several other players on the roster on inactive status. The Starzz open the 1998 WNBA season on June 11 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City against the Los Angeles Sparks. Connor played for Wake Forest from 1992-97, leading the team in scoring and rebounding in each of her four seasons of play. As a freshman in 1992-93, she averaged 20.6 points and 11.3 rebounds per game, shattering the school's single-season marks in both categories and earning ACC Rookie of the Year, Basketball Times Freshman All-America, and a USA Today Fab Five Freshman honors. She also earned first-team All-ACC honors as a junior in 1995-96, and graduated among the school's top five all-time players in eight different statistical categories. Connor has spent the past year as a graduate student in the physician's assistant program at Wake Forest 's Bowman Gray School of Medicine. She was granted a leave of absence from the two-year program to pursue her professional basketball career. Connor is the second former Demon Deacon to join the WNBA ranks. Nicole Levesque ('94) currently plays for the Charlotte Sting.
