WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.--Wake Forest junior guard Janae Whiteside has been selected to participate in the fourth annual NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference, to be held May 28-June 1, 2000, at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

A three-year letterwinner for the Demon Deacons, Whiteside is an active participant in the Athletes Care Team (ACT), a group of Wake Forest student-athletes dedicated to service in the Winston-Salem community. She also tutors at local elementary schools and is a Student-Athlete Mentor (SAM) for the women's basketball team.

Participants at the NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference will engage in a variety of developmental exercises designed to enhance their communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills and will also participate in collaborative projects and critical thinking. Student-athletes will develop their leadership skills through interactive, hands-on work in small groups, discuss and explore critical issues facing their peers, and learn to promote better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities.

A total of 352 student-athletes have been invited to attend the conference. Student-athletes were nominated from NCAA member institutions that participate in the CHAMPS/Life Skills program. Whiteside was selected from a total of 885 nominations.
