WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team will host the Virginia Tech Hokies on Thursday night at the Joel Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Virginia Tech (13-10, 0-8) recently surprised No. 4 Maryland with a nail-biting 74-71 overtime loss in Blacksburg. Redshirt junior Brittany Cook lead the Hokies with 26 points, while freshman guard Andrea Barbour poured in 24 points. The Demon Deacons (13-11, 0-9) are entering the contest with a recent 66-46 road loss at Clemson. WFU guard Alex Tchangoue had a game-high 17 points through her 40 minutes of court time. Injuries have hit Wake Forest hard in 2008. A recent addition to the list is freshman Camille Collier who will be out for six weeks with a stress fracture. Collier sat out the final minutes of the last home contest against North Carolina and missed the entire Clemson game with the injury. Brittany Waters, who collapsed during the North Carolina contest, also sat out at Clemson in order to undergo more tests to determine if she could safely return to action. Waters has been practicing with the team this week and will dress for Thursday's game against the Hokies. Virginia Tech leads the all-time series with the Deacs 6-3. The teams first met in 1978, but took a 25 year hiatus before the next meeting in 2003. The Hokies and Demon Deacons met three times in 2006 and twice 2007, with VT taking a 4-1 advantage. The last WFU win was a 77-71 overtime victory at the Joel on January 19, 2006.
