ATLANTA, Ga. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team is headed south for its first Atlantic Coast Conference road challenge on Thursday night against Georgia Tech.

The Yellow Jackets (13-2, 0-1) were recently stung in Chapel Hill with a 99-78 loss to No. 4 North Carolina. Before the set-back, Georgia Tech was riding a seven-game win streak, propelled by senior forward and leading scorer Janie Mitchell, who averages just under 17 points per game.

Georgia Tech junior Jacqua Williams set a league high in steals, with 11 against North Carolina, nearly double the amount of Virginia's Sharnee Zoll who sits in second place with an average of five per game through UVA's first two conference games.

The Demon Deacons (12-4, 0-2) and the Yellow Jackets will both be competing for their first ACC win. The Deacs dropped their first two conference contests last week in Winston-Salem, opening with an 83-49 loss to No. 5 Maryland on Thursday and were stunned by Virginia 69-50 on Sunday.

Junior Alex Tchangoue has proven to be a consistently strong competitor for the Demon Deacons this season, leading the squad in scoring with an average of 12 points per game and rebounding with a 7.9 game average.

Despite the conference losses, Wake Forest's freshman trio has shown that they aren't afraid to step up for ACC competition. Guard Camille Collier netted a team-high ten points in the Maryland loss and forced two turnovers on the Terrapins. Guard Kem Wilson had four rebounds through her 12 minutes of action against the Cavaliers, while guard Brittany Waters totaled four rebounds through seven minutes against Maryland.

Wake continues to be a national leader in scoring defense, leading the ACC and standing fourth in the nation behind Connecticut, Rutgers and LSU. The Demon Deacons currently boast and opponent scoring average of just over 50 points per game .

The Yellow Jackets will be defending a 16-0 record at the Alexander Memorial Coliseum that began when Georgia Tech defeated Winston-Salem State in Atlanta on January 4, 2007. North Carolina was the last school to nip GT on its home turf, taking a 69-57 win on January 2 of last year.

Tip-off for Thursday's game is set for 7 p.m. and can be watched live at ACCSelect.com

The Deacons will return to the Joel Coliseum on Monday, January 14 to host Clemson at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on FSN.
