Georgia Tech Defeats Wake Forest, 80-60

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.--Georgia Tech blew open a six-point halftime lead behind Kenya Williams' 21 points to defeat host Wake Forest, 80-60, in ACC women's basketball action at Joel Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.

Tech ended a four-game losing streak to improve to 8-7 overall and 2-4 in the ACC. Wake dropped its fifth straight game to fall to 4-12 and 0-6 in the ACC.

Williams, ajunior, recorded a double-double, going 8-for-11 from the floor and 5-for-7 from the line while pulling down 10 rebounds. Tech sophomore Danielle Donehew connected on 6-of-13 three-point attempts to finish the game with 19 points. Senior Joannah Kauffman scored 16 points and blocked four shots for the Yellow Jackets. Wake Forest junior Emon McMillian also recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. McMillian was 6-for-11 from the floor and collected seven of her 14 boards off the offensive glass. The Demon Deacons kept the game close throughout the first half and went into halftime only down six, 36-30. The Deacs shot just 28.9 percent from the field in the second half, however, allowing Tech to open up a big lead. Wake was also unable to convert from the free throw line, shooting 40 percent in the second half and just 41.2 percent for the game.

"This was a disappointing game for us," said Wake Forest head coach Charlene Curtis. "We've been playing better than this. Defensively we were bad today. We didn't communicate and we missed assignments." "We needed this victory," siad Georgia Tech head coach Agnus Berenato, "To get an ACC win on the road is extremely hard. The presence of our inside game [was the key]. Our post players did a terrific job." Wake Forest returns to action on Thursday, when they host Clemson at 7 p.m. georgia Tech will host Florida State next Sunday, January 18th at 12:30 p.m.
