East Carolina Defeats Wake Forest, 73-66 in Women's Basketball

GREENVILLE, N.C.--Five Lady Pirates scored in double figures as East Carolina defeated visiting Wake Forest, 73-66, in a women's basketball game in Greenville on Tuesday night. The win marked ECU's first victory over an ACC team since 1982.

Wake Forest (2-4) held a slight 27-26 edge at halftime, but a late ECUrun put the Lady Pirates (2-3) ahead for good. ECU shot 56 percent from the floor and dominated the glass, outrebounding the Demon Deacons by a 41-27 margin. Senior center Jen Cox led ECU with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Misty Horne (13 pts), Melanie Gillem (13), Shay Hayes (12), and Beth Jaynes (11) each notched double figures as well. Four Wake Forest players hit double figures as well, led by sophomore guard Alisha Mosley's 17 points. Cynthia Kelley and Emon McMillian each grabbed five rebounds for the Deacs.

Wake Forest hosts seventh-ranked North Carolina in both teams' Atlantic Coast Conference season opener on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Joel Coliseum.
