Wake Forest Edged by Baltic All-Stars, 60-58
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Baltic States All-Stars held off a late Wake Forest rally to edge the Demon Deacons, 60-58, in a women's basketball exhibition game at Reynolds Gym on Monday night.
The Deacons, who opened up their regular season with a win over VCU on Saturday, found themselves plagued by poor shooting and turnovers in tonight's game. Wake trailed the Baltic team 31-23 at the half, hitting just 29 percent from the floor. The Deacons rallied late in the game, however, tying it at 55-55 on a Janae Whiteside three-pointer with 1:38 to go.
The All-Stars surged ahead 60-55 before Alisha Mosley hit another three to get the Deacs within two points. WFU ran out of time, however, missing their final shot.
Wake shot just 34 percent from the floor for the game, but held a 45-41 advantage on the boards. Mosley led the Deacs with 18 points, including four three-pointers, and also chipped in seven rebounds and three assists. Freshman Olivia Dardy added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. For the Baltic All-Stars, Marina Kress had 13 points, while Elena Velento pulled down six rebounds.
Wake Forest will travel to the Saint Louis University Tournament this weekend, facing Texas-Arlington in the first round on Friday at 9:30 pm Eastern time.
