Dec. 30, 1999 LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Liberty University Women's Basketball team outscored Wake Forest 31-7 in the first half and claimed a 64-40 victory over the Demon Deacons. The win gave the Lady Flames their first triumph over an Atlantic Coast Conference team in school history. Elena Kisseleva (Sr., F, Moscow, Russia) collected her first double-double of the season, 30th of her career, and led the team with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The game went scoreless in the first 4:51 of the game until Zandrique Cason (Fr., F, Tempe, Ariz.) tipped in the opening score to give LU a 2-0 lead at the 15:09 mark. Wake Forest did not score until 12:55 when Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick (Jr., F, Waynesville, N.C.) connected on both free throw attempts. Liberty held Wake Forest to shooting 8.7 percent (2/23) from the field in the opening half and 25.5 percent (12/47) for the game. A 14-1 scoring run over a span of 5:07 gave the Lady Flames a 21-5 lead, and LU held the Demon Deacons to two points in the final six minutes of the period. Liberty led as much as 34 points in the second period, but Wake Forest used a 32-18 run to pull within 20 points with 1:54 remaining. Much of Deacons' scoring effort came from Alisha Mosley (Sr., G, Ellicott City, Md.) who scored 16 of her team-leading 17 points in the second half. Kirkpatrick also came on during the final period, scoring 12 of her 13 points after intermission. Wake Forest opens conference play on Monday, January 3, at home against Florida State at 7:00 p.m.
