WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team defeated Lenoir-Rhyne 76-48 in its first exhibition game of 2008 on Monday evening in Winston-Salem.

All players on the Wake Forest roster logged minutes in the contest, with seniors Alex Tchangoue and Corinne Groves, sophomores Brittany Waters and Camille Collier and junior Tiffany Roulhac taking the five starting spots.

Groves led the squad with 21 points and five rebounds, while Tchangoue put up 16 points and three caroms for the Deacons.

Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore LaCourtney Rann posted a team-high 14 points for the Bears, while junior Denise Moore posted a game-high nine rebounds.

Freshman Secily Ray was the first off the Deacon bench, taking over for Waters. After picking up two quick fouls she was sidelined just two minutes into the first half but returned in the second half to play eleven more minutes and pull four rebounds.

Courteney Morris took over for Collier, playing 17 minutes overall with three points and two rebounds. Jessie Cain logged 14 minutes off the bench, making the transition from post player to guard. She posted two rebounds during the game.

Freshman Brooke Thomas went in at the 14 minute mark in the first half, subbing in at the point for Roulhac. After shaking some freshman jitters, Thomas showcased her speed and sharp-shooting, logging six points through nine minutes of play in the first half. Thomas totaled 10 points by the end of regulation.

 

 

On Friday Wake Forest will continue preseason play with Indiana University (PA) at 7 p.m. The Demon Deacons will be the regular season on Monday, November 17 against UNC Greensboro at the Joel Coliseum.
