Men's B-Team Records Victory at Davidson Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Led by Pete Swanson (Sherman, NY), the Wake Forest B-team won the Davidson Invitational with 37 points on Saturday, September 13.

Swanson, a sophomore, finished the race in a time of 27:09 to place second, 10 seconds behind individual champion Adam Growley of Winthrop . Jay Penry (Cincinnati, OH) finished sixth with a time of 27:21.

The Deacs had two other scoring runners who finished among the top-10. Jack Bishop (King's Park, NY) was eighth with a time of 27:29, while Joe DeGutis (Mt. Pleasant, MI) finished ninth with a time of 27:39. David Hampson (Exeter, NH) was the final scoring Deacon as he placed 12th.

Top Deacon Harriers Will Compete at Iona
Coach John Goodridge will run his top harriers at the Iona Invitational on September 27.

Leading the group will be senior Nolan Swanson (Sherman, NY). In 1996, Swanson became the first Deacon male to win the ACC Championship. Also among that group will be Ben Boyd (Marietta, GA) and Eric Dunn (Pismo Beach, CA).

Goodridge and Deacons Look for Continued ACC Success
Wake Forest has exhibited excellence in cross country in the ACC during John Goodridge's tenure as head coach. The program looks to have another strong season in 1997.

In the ACC Championships, Wake Forest has finished first or second every season since 1988.

Along the way John Goodridge coached teams claimed ACC titles in 1989, 1990, 1993, and 1994.
