LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Wake Forest finished 10th out of 32 teams here Saturday at the NCAA Southeast Men's Cross Country Regional after placing three runners in the top 65.

 

The Southeast Regional was one of nine regional meets held across the country today. The field for the Nov. 20 NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Ind. will be announced Sunday.

 

ACC champion N.C. State (64 points) won the team title at the Southeast Regional, followed by William & Mary (70), host Louisville (80), Virginia (131) and Clemson (201). ACC teams took three of the top five positions and seven of the top 11 positions. Wake Forest had 335 points.

 


 

 

Eastern Kentucky's Jacob Korir won the individual crown with a time of 30:03.10. He finished 20 seconds ahead of runner-up Josh McDougal of Liberty. NC State placed all five runners in the top 20.

 

Junior John Compton paced the Demon Deacons with a 49th-place finish and a time of 32:13.35.  Freshman Marcus Dillon finished one second behind Compton and in 54th place. Senior Joel Conn took 64th place with a time of 32:37.10.

 

Senior Brad Wharton finished 81st in 32:50.90.  Sophomore Mark Russell closed out Wake Forest's scoring with an 87th-place finish and a time of 32:55.40.

 

Other Deacon runners who did not count toward the team score were junior Chris Catton in 121st place at 33:27.90 and junior Jared Hill, who finished 169th in 34:42.00.
