Greenville, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's cross country team dominated the East Carolina Meet Saturday morning. The Deacons placed six runners in the top-10 for their first meet title in 2004. Shane Ahlers won the 8k race with a 25:02.95. Joel Conn was not far behind Ahlers, with a 25:21.71, good for a second place finish. Kevin Jones placed fifth, Brad Wharton sixth, John Compton eighth and Brian Smith ninth. Jared Hill finished 18th, to round out the top-seven Deacon runners. The Deacons cruised past the other seven participating schools, with a total of 22 points. The University of North Carolina at Greensboro placed second with 48 points. The total Deacon time of 2:07:48.92 was nearly three seconds better than UNCG (2:10:12.11). Wake Forest returns to action on October 16, when the men's and women's teams travel to Terre Haute, IN for the Pre-Nationals race.
