ST. PAUL, Minn.-- The Wake Forest men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday at the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course. The Demon Deacon men's team, who are receiving votes in the current poll, finished tenth in the 31-team field. The women's squad, ranked 25th in the country, took 10th place in the 29-team field.

Sara Day led the Deacs, taking fourth place with a time of 21:18 in the 6,000-meter women's race. Day a senior from Winston-Salem, N.C., has finished in the top four of both races that she has competed in this year. The host school, Minnesota, won the meet and Arizonaās Tara Chaplin was the individual champion.

Wake Forest also finished 10th in the men's race. Ted DeVos, a junior from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.,led the Deacs, placing 32nd with a time of 25:06 in the 8,000-meter run. The Demon Deacons finished ahead of ranked teams Minnesota and Missouri. Providence won the meet and the Friarās Keith Kelly was the individual champion.

I thought we did well, said Wake Forest men's coach Gary Sievers. When we get full force with Michael Altieri back, we'll be right up there. We beat some ranked teams ahead of us. A couple of teams beat us that shouldn't have, but I think all in all if we stay healthy and get the people up and running like we should, then we'll be right in the thick of things.

The Demon Deacons return to action Saturday, Sept. 30, the men at the Greensboro Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. and the women will send some to Greensboro and some to the Iona Championships in Bronx, N.Y.
