WINSTON-SALEM, NC-- The Wake Forest men's and women's cross country teams both captured first place at the 2003 Wake Forest Alumni Invitational on Saturday morning. Michelle Sikes followed up her first place finish at the Mountaineer Open by again taking first place overall in the women's division. Sean Stevens was the top finisher for the Demon Deacon men, finishing fourth. Nolan Swanson, a member of the Wake Forest Alumni team finished first overall on the men's side.

The Demon Deacon men finished with 37 points, ahead of the alumni team and Georgia Tech. The seventh-ranked Demon Deacon women ended with 21 points, followed by Georgia Tech and then Clemson.

Including Sikes, six of Wake Forest's seven women runners placed in the top ten of the 6k race. Erin Franklin came in second, Rachel Mistur placed sixth, Selina Sekulic seventh, Adralyn Wendel eighth, and Denise Hefferin rounded out the top ten.

14 Demon Deacon men ran in their 8k race, and four placed in the top ten. Stevens came in fourth overall, Brandon Bartholomew finished sixth, followed by Brad Wharton in seventh and Brian Smith in tenth.

Wake Forest returns to action on September 27 as they travel to St. Paul, Minn. for the Roy Griak Invitational.
