EARLYSVILLE, Va. - The Wake Forest men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Lou Onesty Invitational, hosted by the University of Virginia Saturday morning. Sophomore Marcus Dillon led Wake Forest with a third-place finish individually. Dillon finished in a time of 24:53.40. Junior Jeremy Fisico was not far behind Dillon, placing 13th in 25:35.60. Redshirt freshman Patrick Russell rounded out the men's runners for Wake Forest, finishing 43rd in 26:47.50. For the women, freshman Anne-Marie Duncan was the first Deacon to cross the finish line. Duncan placed 44th in 20:33.00 Fellow freshman Christine Richards ran a 20:56.00 to finish 50, while redshirt freshman Kelly Laffey was right behind in 53rd with a time of 21:11.20. Freshman Hannah McArdle and Caitlin Crawford finished back-to-back in 60th and 61st. McArdle ran a 21:43.10, while Crawford turned in a 21:43.50. Freshmen Suzie Clinchy and Julia Johnson rounded out the field for the Deacons. Clinchy finished 66th in 22:24.50, while Johnson placed 75th in 23:19.90. As a team, the Deacon women finished sixth of eight teams. Virginia won the women's meet with 30 points. Duke took home the title on the men's side, finishing with 35 points. Individually, Virginia's Emily Harrison won the women's race in 17:16.50. Andy Biladeau of Virginia won the men's race in 24:25.80.
Wake Forest is back in action next weekend. The women will compete at the Boston College Eagles Invitational on Friday. The men will compete at the Wolfpack Invitational on Saturday in Raleigh. |
