The Demon Deacon Cross Country team participated in their first meet of the season at the Mountaineer Open in Boone, NC. Both Wake teams dominated the course, as seven women and two men finished in the top ten.

Anne Bersagel led all women runners to finish with a time of 17:27.40 while Mike Altieri finished the race in 20:29.50, placing him seventh. Jill Miller came in behind Bersagel in second with a time of 17:40.00. For the men, Brandon Bartholomew completed the course with a time of 20:32.80 to finish in ninth place.

Other top performers for the women include Anna Sherman in fourth with a time of 18:07.90, Erin Franklin in fifth with a time of 18:12.70, Danielle Coon took sixth with a time of 18:16.30, Nikeya Green in eighth with a time of 18:38.30 and Theresa Fath took ninth with a time of 18:38.90.

Also performing well on the men¡¦s side were Sean Stevens, who took 13th with a time of 20:38.80, Dave Barrett in 16th with a time of 20:42.30, Jimmy Butler in 17th with a time of 20:43.40 and Chris Elder, who took 18th with a time of 20:45.90.

Up next, the Demon Deacon Harriers will host the Wake Forest Alumni Invitational on September 14 in Winston-Salem.
