BOONE, NC-- Wake Forest opened up the 2003 cross country season in grand fashion on Friday at the Mountaineer Open. The women's team took first place overall while the men finished in second place, right behindFlorida State.

Sean Stevens had a strong showing as he came in second overall in the men's division. Three other Demon Deacon men finished in the top ten. Brian Smith placed sixth, Brandon Bartholomew came in eighth, and Nathan Sisco finished tenth overall.

Wake Forest dominated the women's side of the race, as five of the top ten overall finishers were Demon Deacons. Michelle Sikes, Hanna Bremler, Erin Franklin, Selina Sekulic and Rachel Mistur each placed in the top ten.

Also competing for the men were Chris Elder, Brad Wharton, Dave Barrett, Kevin Jones, Andrew Ice and Ottie Kerley.
