WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -

The Wake Forest University track and field teams will travel to Atlanta this weekend for the annual Georgia Tech Invitational at the Georgia C. Griffin Track on Friday and Saturday.  The meet will feature over 1,000 representatives from over 70 colleges from around the country.

The event gets under way on Friday at noon with the men's and women's hammer and will conclude on Saturday at 6:45 p.m. with the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay.

Entering the weekend, Michelle Sikes appears twice in the "Dandy Dozen," a power ranking of the top 12 athletes and relay squads in each NCAA event as determined by Trackwire.com.  The Lakewood, Ohio, native is ranked third in the nation in the 5,000-meter run and fourth in the 10,000-meter run.  The senior is one of only three in the nation to be ranked in both events.

The Deacs are coming off the Duke Twilight Meet on Sunday, May 6, that earned the team its 18th and 19th regional qualifying marks of the season.  Competing in the 1,500-meter run, sophomores Allison Kieffer and Nicole Schappert ran times of 4:27.30 and 4:27.44, respectively, to beat the event's NCAA qualifying standard of 4:27.80.  Wake will be looking to add to that total in Atlanta this weekend.

In addition to Sikes, Kieffer and Schappert, Melissa Council (400m), Caitlin Chrisman (5,000m, 10,000m), Caroline Vaughn (100mH), Michelle Duffey (400mH), Lindsay Neuberger (shot put) and the 4x400-meter relay team (Duffey, Council, Gove and Nicole Castronuova) have all qualified on the women's side.  For the men, Kevin Marion (100m, 200m, long jump), Eric Seely (200m), Michael Bingham (200m), Phillip Warsaw (400mH), the 4x100-meter relay team (Marion, Seely, Bingham and Jonathan Reid), the 4x400-meter relay team (Bingham, Reid, Tyler Dodds and Seely) and Michael Hauck (javelin) have earned regionally-qualifying marks and times.

The women's team is ranked No. 23 in the latest Trackwire poll.  It is projected to earn a total of 11 points at the 2007 NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, Calif.

Live stats for the Georgia Tech Invitational will be provided by Delta Timing and will be available on the official Georgia Tech website.
