WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Chris Helwick of Team Wick-Set took the Decathlon Championship at the Deacon Combined Events meet with a new facility record of 8017 points.

Helwick, a Wake Forest volunteer assistant track and field coach, topped the former record of 7520 set by unattached athlete Chad Smith in 2000.

Ashley Wilhelm took the heptathlon title with a 5737 point total.

Wake Forest senior Molly Kennedy finished with a personal best score of 5269.

The Demon Deacons will now begin to gear up for the NCAA East Regionals on May 30 in Tallahassee.
