The Wake Forest Outdoor Track & Field teams sent a select few to the 2001 Cardinal Invitational Friday at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA, and a couple members of the Demon Deacon women's team competed in the 2001 George Mason Invitational on Saturday in Fairfax, VA. Wake Forest senior long distance runner, Sara Day, ran a NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 5,000-Meter Run at the Cardinal Invitational, the second time she's accomplished the feat in as many tries this season and senior middle distance runner, Summer Shaw, barely misses the NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 800-Meter Run, setting a new season high for the team. Nikeya Green ran a career best 2:08.42 in the 800-Meter Run for fourth place at the George Mason Invitational. The freshman from Woodbridge, VA, was the first collegian to cross the finish line. Shauna Danos shaved a few tenths of a second off her career record in the event, placing tenth with a time of 2:12.64. Jamie Grayzer took seventh place in the High Jump, clearing 5'1ä and seventh place in the 100-Meter Hurdles with a time of 16.86.
Meanwhile in the Golden State, Sara Day set a new career record in the
5,000-Meter Run with a NCAA provisionally qualifying time of 16:31.97.
Courtney Lancashire smashed her career best time in the 5,000-Meter Run
as well, running a 16:59.90. Summer Shaw missed the NCAA provisional
qualifying time by two-hundredths of a second in the 800-Meter Run with
a team best time of 2:07.52. Paul Singleton took seventh place in the
Men's 800-Meter Run with a time of 1:50.10. Nathan Sisco led the Deacs
in the 1,500-Meter Run, finishing 19th in 3:46.10. Chris Estwanik ran a
season best time of 3:49.83 in the 1,500-Meter Run and Josh Buffolino
was close behind with a 3:52.35. Garick Hill and Ted DeVos both finished
in the top 20 in the 10,000-Meter Run, finishing with times of 30:13.14
and 30:34.79 respectively.
