Track Teams Compete In Charlotte Invitational

Several competitors accomplish personal and season bests.

Several Wake Forest competitors won events at the Charlotte Invitational hosted by UNC Charlotte over the weekend in the Deacons final tune-up before the 1998 ACC Track & Field Championships to be held in Orlando, FL, April 17-18.

John Stone ran personal and team season best times en route to winning the 100 meters and 200 meters. Stone finished the 100 with a time of 10.26 and finished the 200 with a time of 21.56.

Matt Shady won the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:52.48. Chris Cody had a solid showing in the 800 meters finishing second with a personal and team season best time of 1:54.63.

Brad Perkins secured a second place finish in the discus throw with a throw of 45.90 meters.

On the women's side, Wake Forest dominated the 800 meter run. Chrissy Person won the event for the Deacs with a time of 2:09.00. That time was another personal and season best time. Jill Snyder finished right behind Person with a time of 2:10.45. Summer Shaw finished fourth with a time of 2:16.57 and Erin Haugh finished fifth with a time of 2:22.07 to give Wake four of the top five spots in the 800 meter run.

Wake Forest also won the women's 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:56.30.

Carrie Gilchrist and Brooke Chapman registered second place finishes in the 400 meter hurdles and the 400 meter run respectively. Gilchrist ran a time of 1:06.28 while Chapman posted a time of 57.54.
