The No. 45 Wake Forest men's tennis team, seeded fourth, will take on
No. 66 Florida State, seeded fifth in the quarterfinals of the ACC
Championship Friday, April 20 at 9:00 a.m. at the Disney Wide World of
Sports Complex in Orlando, FL. The Demon Deacons (13-9 overall) finished
the regular season fourth in the ACC with a 5-3 record.
Wake Forest's five conference wins are more than any Demon Deacon team
has amassed since winning six ACC matches in 1981.
The Demon Deacons' fourth place finish in the ACC is their highest
since finishing fourth in 1994.
No. 45 Wake Forest, the fourth seed in the ACC Championship, will play
the 66th ranked and fifth seeded Florida State Seminoles at 9:00 a.m.,
on Friday, April 20 in the quarterfinals.
Wake Forest upset Florida State 6-1 in the last matchup, March 12 in
Winston-Salem.
FSU leads the all-time series between the teams 14-4.
The Demon Deacons are 2-0 against the Seminoles in the ACC
Championship.
The winner will advance to the semifinals to play the winner of
Thursday's first round match between top-seeded Duke and bottom-seeded
Maryland on Friday at 10 a.m.
The last time Wake Forest advanced to the semifinals was in 1993.
Wake Forest has a 5-16 record in the ACC Championship.
Wake Forest has never won the ACC Championship, but has finished
second three times.
Seven Demon Deacons have won ACC Singles Championships and eight have
won doubles.
Last year Wake Forest lost 4-1 to North Carolina in the quarterfinals
of the ACC Championship.
Freshman David Loewenthal and sophomore Trent Brendon are tied for the
team's lead with 27 singles victories, placing Loewenthal and Brendon in
a tie for seventh place on the Wake Forest single-season singles
victories.
Raul Munoz is Wake Forest's all-time leader in doubles wins with 88
career doubles victories. The senior from Mexico City, Mexico is also
fourth on the career singles victories list at WFU.
