CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-- Andrew Hamar and Derrick Spice each won two singles matches on Friday at the ITA Regionals in Chapel Hill and advanced to Saturday's round of 16. Hamar, the number 16 seed, took care of Duke's Chris Brown in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 in his opening match. He then dropped Virginia Commonwealth's Francesc Lleal in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 later in the day. Spice, the 11th-seed, won his opening match against Jiri Beranek of Campbell, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 and continued to roll right past North Carolina's Jonathan Janda by a score of 7-6(6), 6-2 in the round of 32.

Two other Demon Deacons fell to higher-seeded opponents in singles play on Friday. Brett Ross dropped a 2-6, 6-7(3) match to 13th-seeded Clayton Almeida of Winthrop and 15th-seeded Zoltan Csanadi of Old Dominion defeated Todd Paul in a tough three-set match, 6-1, 6-7(5), 7-5.

Hamar and Spice continue their quest for the ITA singles championship on Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. in Chapel Hill.
