CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Cory Parr topped Virginia Tech's Pedro Graber 6-4, 6-1 on Sunday afternoon to advance to the semifinals of the main singles draw of the ITA Regionals. Parr is also in the final rounds of the doubles draw with Steven Forman and will face Virginia's No. 33 Houston Barrick and Sanam Singh on Sunday evening for the quarterfinals of the event. Parr will play Virginia's No. 78 Houston Barrick on Monday in Chapel Hill. Tournament results will be reported at the ITA Mideast Regional Home Site.
Parr earned a two-seed and picked up a bye for the opening round of 128. The Jericho, N.Y. native then had to face two conference competitors, Luka Somen of Virginia Tech and David Holland of Duke before advancing to the round of 16 to battle his first ranked opponent. Parr defeated Radford's No. 79 Ivan Salec 6-3, 6-3 to move into the quarterfinals. Steven Forman received a four-seed and opened singles play in the round of 64 against Presbyterian's Matt Martin, taking a 6-3, 6-4 win. Forman was stopped in the next round when he fell 7-6(4), 6-3 to Florida State's Maciek Sykut. Parr and Forman earned the top seed in the doubles draw and took down Duke's Kiril Dmitrov and Alain Michel in the round of 32 with an 8-2 win. The tandem advanced to the quarterfinals with an 8-4 victory over NC State's Jamie Pulgar and Derek Stephens and the pair is now set to play Virginia's No. 33 team of Houston Barrick and Sanam Singh. The quarterfinals will begin Sunday evening.
