WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest lost its final regular season match, 6-1, to No. 25 Virginia at Leighton Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Deacons finish the regular season with a record of 11-14 and 3-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Virginia improves to 13-7 and 4-3 in league play. Sophomore Raul Munoz scored the only Wake Forest point. He defeated Huntley Montgomery at No. 2 singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. The Deacs claimed one doubles victory. Johan Hansen and Andres Guzman downed Brain Hunter and Hyon Yoo at the No. 3 flight, 8-1. Wake Forest's 14th ranked duo of Myles Clouston and Raul Munoz were upset by 23rd ranked Huntley Montgomery and Brian Vahaly at No. 1 doubles, 9-8 (5). The Deacons will now begin preparation for the 1999 ACC Tournament on April 22-25 in Atlanta. Wake Forest's seed, opponent and time of match are still to be determined.
