WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The 42nd ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team picked up a pair of home wins defeating East Tennessee State, 6-1 Friday afternoon at Leighton Stadium and then defeating Maryland 6-0 Friday evening at the Indoor Tennis Center.

Against the Buccaneers, Wake Forest captured the doubles point and then took five of the six singles matches. Raul Munoz and David Loewenthal made quick work of ETSU's Marcus Pavlovich and Juan Yannuzai in the number two doubles match and Justin Kaufmann teamed up with Andrew Simpson to battle past Bucs Pablo Sahagun and Juan Yannuzzi 9-8 (4) in the number three doubles match. The Demon Deacon duo of Mike Murray and David Bere fell 8-4 in the number one doubles match, but Wake Forest won the doubles point. Loewenthal, Murray, Bere and Kaufmann all earned singles victories in straight sets, securing the victory for Wake Forest. Trent Brendon fought past Juan Yannuzzi in the number five singles match 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 to extend his win streak to 11 straight victories. Raul Munoz lost the number one singles match 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 to Gustavo Gomez of ETSU.

Wake Forest and Maryland played singles matches first in the nightcap and after the Deacs swept all six they did not play the doubles matches. Munoz, Murray, Kaufmann, Simpson, Rick Phillipp and Stephen Perkins all won in straight sets for the Demon Deacons.

East Tennessee State falls to 5-6 on the season and Maryland drops to 4-6 overall, 0-3 in the ACC. Wake Forest improves to 9-4 on the year and 2-0 in the ACC. The Demon Deacons will return to action Sunday, March 24 when they take on No. 45 Virginia at 2:00 p.m. in Leighton Stadium.
