Men's Tennis Nips Furman 4-3 Wake Forest picks up home victory against Paladins WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The 32nd ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team defeated Furman, 4-3 Saturday morning at Leighton Stadium. Wake Forest split the singles matches 3-3 with the Paladins, but the Demon Deacons captured the doubles point to earn the victory. Raul Munoz and doubles partner David Loewenthal beat Furman's John Chesworth and James Cameron 8-6 in the number one doubles match while Wake Forest's Mike Murray teamed up with David Bere to defeat Andrew Rogers and Patrick Fillnow of Furman 8-4 in the number two doubles match. The Paladin's duo of Charlie Loyd and Chris Henderson topped Justin Kaufmann and Andrew Simpson of the Demon Deacons 8-5.
In singles play, David Bere picked up a win for the Old Gold and Black
in the number one match over Lee Nickell, 7-5, 6-1. Wake Forest also
claimed the number two match when Raul Munoz defeated Furman's John
Chesworth 6-1, 6-1. The Paladins won three through five as James Cameron
battled past Demon Deacon David Loewenthal 6-3, 7-6 (6), Patrick Gaughan
took down Wake Forest's Mike Murray 7-5, 6-0 and Patrick Fillnow edged
the Deac's number five player, Justin Kaufmann, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Trent
Brendon sealed the victory for the Deacons when he dropped Eric Ward
6-2, 6-3 in the number six singles match.
Furman falls to 6-5 on the season while Wake Forest improves to 6-2 on the year. The Demon Deacons will return to action Monday, March 12, when they open ACC play by hosting No. 47 Florida State at 1:00 p.m. in Leighton Stadium. Singles
