No. 2-Seed Deacs Open ACC Tourney with No. 7-Seed Clemson
Conference Battle Begins on Wednesday Night at 8:30 p.m.

CARY, N.C. - The second-seeded Wake Forest men's soccer team opens the 2007 ACC Tournament on Wednesday with No. 7-seed Clemson at 8 p.m.

This year's tournament will be held at the SAS Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., also the host site of the 2007 College Cup. The event begins on Tuesday night with the No. 8 and No. 9 seed match up, followed by quarterfinals on Wednesday, semifinals on Friday and the Championship on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

When the Deacons and the Tigers met in Wake Forest's sixth regular season game, Cody Arnoux netted the only goal in the 34th minute to give the Deacon's their first ACC victory.

Clemson leads the all-time series with Wake 17-12-3, but the Deacons are unbeaten through the last four matches with the Tigers.

Last year, Duke captured its second consecutive men's soccer title and program's third overall. Junior Mike Grella propelled the Blue Devils to victories in both of the past two championships as the forward netted the game-winning penalty kick in 2005 in the sudden death portion of the shootout, and last year he nailed a blast with 3:27 remaining in the first overtime period to break a scoreless tie against Wake Forest.

The Deacons have advanced to the finals of the tournament only three times in the program's history, with appearances in 2006, 1991 and 1989 when the team won its only conference championship.

Earlier this week Wake Forest cleaned up in post season honors, leading the conference with four Deacs on the All-First Team. Freshman Corben Bone was tabbed ACC Freshman of the Year becoming only the second Wake athlete to earn the honor. Justin Moose, a midfielder now with MLS team D.C. United, also took the award for the Demon Deacons in 2002.
